Rifles Museum

A group of Heritage Volunteers have been working in the Rifles Museum in Salisbury since 2001 where their first project was to make three banners depicting the badges of former regiments. These now hang in the entrance hall of the museum. Since then the group has been working on the museum's extensive medal collection, recording, photographing and cleaning them. Over the years we have all learnt so much about the medals, their owners and their regiments.

An additional task was to make a replica uniform jacket of the 49th Regiment for an exhibition to commemorate the 1812 wars in Canada where the 49th was heavily involved.

A short film of the work of our HVs working in the museum can be viewed here »

A previous project was making 450 calico uniform covers for The Museum of Army Flying.

Salisbury Museum Costume Project

After nearly a year of meetings and training a new HV team the project started in January 2016.There are over 5,000 items in the costume collection including agricultural smocks, military uniforms, ball gowns, riding habits, hats, gloves, fans, parasols, boots and shoes. All items will be recorded and photographed before being added to the data base.

Arundells

The home of Edward Heath has a wonderful collection of paintings, Chinese objects and memorabilia from his military and political career.

Several of our members continue to guide or room steward. With several new exhibitions we are now looking for more of our members to volunteer.

This work represents just a few of the projects carried out by the 3000 Arts Society Heritage Volunteers working in museums, castles, libraries, historic houses and galleries throughout the country and they are widely acknowledged for their valuable contribution to our artistic heritage.
