Welcome to The Arts Society Sarum

Chairman: Peter Hicks MBE

You do not need to be an art expert to enjoy The Arts Society Sarum — curiosity and an interest in learning are all that is required. Our Society welcomes everyone who enjoys discovering more about art, architecture, history, and culture, whatever their level of knowledge.

As a member society of The Arts Society, we offer a varied and engaging programme designed to inform, inspire, and entertain. Our monthly lectures are given by leading specialists who present their subjects in a clear, accessible, and enjoyable way. We also organise special interest days, educational visits, and cultural holidays, all of which encourage exploration and shared enjoyment.

Membership is as much about participation and friendship as it is about learning. Many members value the relaxed, friendly atmosphere and the opportunity to meet others who share an interest in the arts.

Members may also choose to become involved in rewarding conservation volunteering projects. As a registered charity, we actively support Education in the Arts, particularly for young people.

We are part of the Arts Society Wessex Area, offering further opportunities for joint events and connections with neighbouring societies.

We would be delighted to welcome you and invite you to discover just how enjoyable learning about the arts can be.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL 2026/2027

Our 2025/2026 season has now ended after a very successful year. It is now time to think of the next season and membership renewal. I believe that we have organised another series of interesting lectures, visits and ‘Journeys of Discovery’ for 2026/27. All the details are on the website, and you can download the brochure at Pamphlet. As confirmed at the AGM, our subscription rate will remain at £50 for an individual or £100 for joint membership.

The easiest way to renew is online at Renew. Payment can be done by BACS or by sending a cheque to the Membership Secretary. All the details are on the e-form.

However if you would prefer to send the completed form through the post, you can download and print the form at Subscription form.

Important Points:

·        Please ensure that you give the name and telephone number of someone who you would wish to be contacted in case of emergency.

·        If applying for joint membership, please give separate contact details (email and telephone) for both of you

·        If paying by BACS, please give your surname and initial as reference.

·        If you are a UK taxpayer, please consider ticking the Gift Aid box which enables us to claim 25% of your subscription from HMRC. If applying for joint membership, please indicate if both of you are claiming Gift Aid or if one of you is claiming on behalf of you both.

Your current membership card remains valid and will be electronically updated when you renew your membership. Hard copies of the programme pamphlet will be available to collect at our first lecture of the season in October. If you would like a brochure before then, please send a SAE.

2026/2027 Programme of Events

The programme for next year which commences in October has now been finalised. The theme is 'Sarum Stays at Home' so it focuses on British Art. A wide variety of subjects will be covered including lectures on Stately Homes, William Morris, Sculpture, English Gardens and even the British Seaside. There will be visits to Chichester and Kelmscott Manor & Buscot Park, and a tour to Chatsworth & the Peak District. We will also be running a two lecture Morning of Discovery on British Landscape painting. The details of all the events can now be discovered on the website. A copy of the full programme leaflet can be downloaded at Brochure.
